Harlan Estate Red Bordeaux Blend Napa Valley the Maiden 1999

Winemaker's Notes:

The Maiden represents the second selection from the estate. It is a highly detailed and sumptuous wine, remarkably faithful to the vineyard's pedigree. Accordingly, the resemblance to her "big sister" is unmistakable.

Harlan Estate:
Set in the western hills of Oakville, rising above the tabled Napa Valley benchlands, the estate is over 240 acres of natural .splendor; oak-studded knolls and valleys, roughly fifteen percent of which are under vine, planted to the classic varietals; Cabernet Sauvignon. Merlot. Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdoc. But more than that it is a family homestead; a place of great inspiration, carved from the raw land, built for generations.

Very ripe, fresh aromas of currant, black cherry, brown spices and smoky oak. Fleshy, dense and sweet, with lively, harmonious acidity giving the flavors excellent definition. Finishes with thoroughly ripe, broad cabernet tannins that coat the entire... Stephen Tanzer's IWC. A Proprietary Blend wine from California in USA. 1999 Harlan Estate The Maiden 750ml

90 Points "The 1999 The Maiden (700 cases) is a more evolved, slightly lighter, less prodigious example of its bigger sibling, the Harlan Estate. The dense saturated purple-colored 1999 The Maiden exhibits an evolved sweet nose of cedar, black currants, licorice, and smoke as well as outstanding density, purity, and ripeness, medium to full body, and firm but unobtrusive tannin in the finish. It should drink well for 12-15 years, perhaps longer. As the wine sat in the glass, aromas of chocolate and cigar smoke emerged." Wine Advocate, #142 Aug 2002, Robert Parker

Harlan Estate makes Cabernet -based Bordeaux blends that are uniformly dense, rich, and complex, while remaining elegant and polished. A cult favorite.
