Hardys Whiskers Blake Tawny Port 2004
Complex layering indeed - add to that a subtle smoke essence.
I am a big fan of Tawny Port, but I think this is the first Australian Tawny that I have tried. It is quite different from a Port with more body as well as vanilla, smoke and caramel flavors... it is also more obviously sweet. However, for the price (I paid around $15), this is a great bargain.
buttery scent, sweet/toasty butterscotch flavor, mild - not too thick
Whiskers Blake is a powerful tawny with good complexity and great tawny color. Beautiful nutty nose with orange peel and caramel. However it has a syrupy character that I don't like. Compared with Morris Black label, this wine pales. My rating 86.
WONDERFUL foreign port, with the strong fragrance of raisins and nuts, though not overpowering. The price is right for entertaining a crowd. My personal favorite port, when it stays in stock long enough for me to make it to the shop.
Four and a half glasses

Succulent and smooth, this tremendously complex tawny is layered with caramel, walnut, coffee, almond and orange peel flavors, long, elegant and spicy in the mouth. All this and wow, what a price -- this wine could double as a Best Buy. 5,000 cases made. -HS
