Hardin Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2016

Member Review by Philip James:

Thick meaty cab. Strong fruit driven wine - berries, licorice, thick mouthfeel, good acidity. With a meaty finish. Had with a juicy steak at BLT Prime, where i saw Giselle dine!

Deep garnet color. Viscous grip on the glass. The nose has blackberries, currant, dark cherry pie and boysenberry. The mouthfeel belies the fact that this is a $23 Cab. There is real structure and allure not normally found at this price point. Sweet tannins and a quiet but ever present acid level carries this forward. The finish seems a bit clipped. This reminds me of Ed Sbragias offerings of late save for the Beringer Reserve. There are some grape pips floating about? Strange, but the only destraction I can find. Could us a year in the bottle but drinks quite nicely now. Great NAPA QPR alert!

Good balance and pure easy ab style will make this a crowd pleaser, even for the uninitiated cab drinkers. Good QPR. 89+

Notes: This "crazy value" Napa Cab was sourced from a couple of top "Cult" wineries in the Valley (SHHH...their wines sell for between $75-150/bot!). Deep, rich and plush with classic Napa Cab fruit, it drinks like a wine costing 2-3 times as much! Blend: 98% Cabernet Sauvignon 2% Cabernet Franc Aging: 22 months in oak, 20% new

Vintage: 2013 08/20/2016

The 2013 vintage in Napa Valley will long be considered as one of the great vintages for Cabernet based wines! If you had to describe 2013 in a few words, it would be a vintage that had a lot of everything - fruit, structure, depth, concentration and acidity. Wines that are compelling young, but are supported by ample tannins and structure to allow them to age gracefully.. The 2013 Hardin Cabernet Sauvignon is a combination of top Valley floor and hillside sites, it’s a blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot aged in French oak (1/3 New) for about 14 months. A wine that displays the outright richness and power of the vintage. Deep, intense, plum, dark cherry and spice are prevelant right away on the nose and palate. But the signature of the vintage is then on full display with minerality, balancing structure and a vibrant, fresh core that lifts the fruit and carries the wine. A classic Napa Cab that will drink well for many years.

Napa Valley, CaliforniaHardin Cabernet Sauvignon is a beautiful expression of Napa Valley at a very affordable price. The first vintage of Hardin Cabernet Sauvignon (2003) was discovered by one of our favorite suppliers, Doug Polaner, on a trip to California, sourced from one of Napa Valley's long time "cult" producers. Doug found himself in Napa at the right time, and was able to taste and buy a small lot of this top, top quality wine. Following the blow-out success of the first effort, Doug has continued to put together a stellar follow-up throughout the years. The 2012 is Hardin's seventh vintage and one of outstanding quality. The 2012 vintage in Napa produced some truly amazing wines, a vintage that saw near perfect growing conditions without excessive rain or heat. The resulting wines are rich and expressive with classic balance and tannic structure. Their generous nature will make them appealing in their youth while having the stuffing to age. The 2012 Hardin Cabernet was sourced from several prestigious wineries within the Napa Valley. A combination of top Valley floor and hillside sites, it's a blend of 82% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot, 2% Petit Verdot and 1% Cabernet Franc and aged in French oak (1/3 new) for about 14 months. The flavor profile of the wine mirrors the 2012 vintage with rich, complex, cassis and dark stone fruits layered with notes of green tobacco, mineral and spice. While powerful and concentrated, there's ample acidity and tannin to balance the intensity of fruit. The finish is long, smooth and lingering.Enjoy Hardin Cabernet Sauvignon with filet mignon, rack of lamb, steak, grilled vegetables and aged cheeses.
