Food Pairings for Haras de Pirque Cabernet Sauvignon Character
Currant, raspberry, and some forest floor in the nose, also an herbaceous/minty quality. Dark berries on the palate; and a nice soft mouthfeel with good body and tannic structure. Had a good, lasting finish with spice and more herbs, and mild oakiness throughout. Definitely enjoyable and nicely complex, overall a well-made wine although maybe a little fruit forward for my taste, and not great QPR.
2003 Via Haras de Pirque Elegance Maipo Valley Cabernet Sauvignon92ptsW&S "Grown in the foothills of the Andes, this profound cabernet shows the character of a hot vintage in its sweet, caramelized black fruit. The soft, round tannins balance austere acidity, extending the generous length of flavor. Exotic Indian spices last, offering a fine match for filet mignon with morels."90ptsWS "A broad-shouldered wine, with lots of coffee and bacony toast up front, followed by dark plum, prune, cocoa and loam notes. Has a bit of a chewy feel, but there's plenty of flesh. Brief cellaring should tame this. Cabernet Sauvignon. Drink now through 2010."Ripe and balanced, with toast, dark currant and blackberry in the nose and coffee, mineral and vanilla notes in the palate.
