Hanna Two Ranch Cabernet Blend 2008

Winemaker's Notes:

Our 2008 Alexander Valley Cabernet is brilliant purple-red with an aroma reminiscent of Baker's chocolate, rhubarb pie, boysenberry and pipe tobacco. Its texture is medium weight, polished agate and bright with only a slight tug of firmness. It has flavors of Santa Rosa Plum, fresh olive oil, graham cracker, cassis, vanilla extract and white pepper. The grapes were picked at an average 24.3 Brix; ranging from 23.9 to 25.3 Brix. Harvest was in the cool hours from midnight to sunrise. The hand-harvested grapes required careful sorting to remove any remaining sun-burn-damaged fruit, then, were destemmed and partically crushed to stainless steel fermentation tanks. The 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon was cold soaked for 6-8 days, before being warmed and allowed to ferment naturally, without innoculation of commercial yeast. To prevent excessive tannin extraction, temperatures were moderate, and most lots were pressed sweet, based on daily tastings of the wines after pumpover. The newly pressed wines were racked to tank and allowed to settle before barreling.

Hanna has evolved from a winery dependent primarily on outside growers, to a 100% estate winery, with 252 acres of planted vineyards in three of Sonoma County's finest appellations. Our own vineyards allow us to control every aspect of grape growing, and we feel our wine quality has improved immeasurably. Alexander Valley Red Ranch We affectionately call this our "Red Ranch" as it is currently planted to Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. When we first bought the ranch in 1985, it was planted in large part to Chardonnay and French Colombard. We find the red loam soils and warm climate to be ideal for the red Bordeaux varieties. With gently sloping blocks and terraced hillsides, this 100 acre ranch is also home to a tasting room with panoramic views. The Mediterranean style tasting room sits atop a knoll overlooking our "Red Ranch" vineyard and Alexander Valley. A stunning wrap-around veranda is the perfect place to enjoy the view while sipping our award winning wines. The vineyard is home to our flagship Cabernet and Merlot. Open Daily 10-4 Read less

excellent Cab, the 2007 was bigger, and I think better, but this is still a fantastic wine.
