Hanna Sauvignon Blanc 2012

Winemaker's Notes:

This fresh and zesty Sauvignon Blanc reflects the superior quality fruit grown in the Hanna family's vineyard in the Russian River Valley. With citrus aromas of grapefruit, lime and a touch of fresh grass and a hint of basil, this is a prefect wine for lighter fare like shellfish or sushi.

Hanna has evolved from a winery dependent primarily on outside growers, to a 100% estate winery, with 252 acres of planted vineyards in three of Sonoma County's finest appellations. Our own vineyards allow us to control every aspect of grape growing, and we feel our wine quality has improved immeasurably. Alexander Valley Red Ranch We affectionately call this our "Red Ranch" as it is currently planted to Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. When we first bought the ranch in 1985, it was planted in large part to Chardonnay and French Colombard. We find the red loam soils and warm climate to be ideal for the red Bordeaux varieties. With gently sloping blocks and terraced hillsides, this 100 acre ranch is also home to a tasting room with panoramic views. The Mediterranean style tasting room sits atop a knoll overlooking our "Red Ranch" vineyard and Alexander Valley. A stunning wrap-around veranda is the perfect place to enjoy the view while sipping our award winning wines. The vineyard is home to our flagship Cabernet and Merlot. Open Daily 10-4 Read less

Pungent and rich with grapefruit, green tomato, lime, and lemon verbena aromas. This enter the mouth with bright acids that lend a citrussy tone to the palate early in but this gains weight and depth on the mid-palate adding in layers of subtle and clear herb, white peach and almost almond flavors that lead to a moderately long, fresh finish which shows a bit of creaminess to the pineapple, gooseberry and faintly herbal flavors here. This is lovely 88pts

A great wine for a hot summer day, like we are having now. The citrus flavor is very prominent but gives it a great taste. We had it with some grilled prawns and it paired outstanding. Buy this one for the summer it is great/

Our Sauvignon Blanc grapes were almost entirely hand harvested at night using tractors fitted with lights. An exception was Crinella which we machine harvested at night. The hand-picked fruit was picked into half-ton bins and hauled the short distance to the winery in the morning. At this point we hand sorted the fruit using a custom made sorting conveyor. The fruit was then destemmed and pressed while still cold. A combination of inoculated and indigenous fermentations was used. The Malolactic fermentation was conducted early to prevent development of buttery aromas. Our Sauvignon Blanc is aged on the lees until three to four weeks before bottling. This keeps the wine fresh and bright. Bottling takes place from November through May at monthly to bi monthly intervals. - WineryColor: Vibrant straw-colored with a tinge of greenAroma: Guava, Rangpur lime and mineral aromas evolve into Passion Fruit, and Buddah's Hand Citron, evoking images of nectarines and mid-summer hayride.Taste: Juicy yet crisp, with grapefruit, stone fruit, and guava flavors, and a spicy ginger finish.Length/Type of Fermentation: Stainless steel: 13% non-inoculated, 87% inoculated with select commercial yeastsLength/Type of Aging: Stainless steel on leesAlcohol: 13.20%Acid Level: 3.22 g/lSugar Level: 0.19 g/l

The wine emphasizes fruit in the aromas and mid palate with a finish broadened by malolactic fermentation. It's fresh and quaffable with distinctive lime, grass and a murmur of basil.-From the Winery

Sauvignon Blanc has been a consistent performer for Hanna, usually yielding a rich, ripe wine with brisk acidity. The '11 is one of their best efforts. It's tart, clean and savory, with the pineapple, tangerine and Meyer lemon flavors touched with a slight sweetness. - S.H. Our 2011 SB has vibrant straw coloring with a tinge of green. The aroma is of kaffir lime, orange blossom, kumquat with a touch of cool slate and vanilla bean. You will find flavors of mango, peach, and pomelo that lead the way with a zingy ripe nectarine mid-palate and an adroit, seamless finish. - WineryVarieties:93% Sauvignon Blanc4% Chardonnay3% SemillonLength/Type of Aging: Stainless steel on lees ** SOLD OUT **
