Hanna Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley 2014

Member Review by tulaw:

Five years was too much for this wine. The bottle I just opened was bitter. It was not corked. It was just no longer worth drinking, and I had decanted it for about 20 min before even taking a sip.

Hanna has evolved from a winery dependent primarily on outside growers, to a 100% estate winery, with 252 acres of planted vineyards in three of Sonoma County's finest appellations. Our own vineyards allow us to control every aspect of grape growing, and we feel our wine quality has improved immeasurably. Alexander Valley Red Ranch We affectionately call this our "Red Ranch" as it is currently planted to Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. When we first bought the ranch in 1985, it was planted in large part to Chardonnay and French Colombard. We find the red loam soils and warm climate to be ideal for the red Bordeaux varieties. With gently sloping blocks and terraced hillsides, this 100 acre ranch is also home to a tasting room with panoramic views. The Mediterranean style tasting room sits atop a knoll overlooking our "Red Ranch" vineyard and Alexander Valley. A stunning wrap-around veranda is the perfect place to enjoy the view while sipping our award winning wines. The vineyard is home to our flagship Cabernet and Merlot. Open Daily 10-4 Read less

Very, very good! Aged to perfection. Smooth, dense red and dark fruit - current, cassis, dark cherry, light tannins, and so enjoyable. I have this in my cellar, but it is going fast for every special occasion. Wish I had more of it!.

Notes: Our 2014 Alexander Valley Cabernet is a saturated plum in color with aromas of black cherry, toasted vanilla bean, Pan de Anis and coconut. In the mouth it is full of soft extract with cocoa, cola, blackberry and blueberry flavors. At this tasting it just bottled but amazingly vibrant. Blend: 77% Cabernet Sauvignon 17% Malbec 6% Merlot

Our 2010 Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is nearly opaque garnet in color with aromas of plum reduction, chocolate truffles and mint root, it has flavor of vanilla bean, sassafras, Kenyan coffee and Bing cherry. On the palate, it is succulent with powdered cacao tannins. and a savory finish reminiscent of a Serrano ham. - WineryVARIETY:87% Cabernet Sauvignon12% Merlot1% MalbecLENGTH / TYPE OF AGING: 27 months barrel agedOAK TYPES:60% New French Oak (Saury, Trust, Cadus, Dargaud & Jaegle)25% New American Oak (Keystone)5% New Hungarian Oak (Nadalie)

Soft in tannins and acids, this Cabernet has a gentle, drink-me-now mouthfeel. The flavors are rich and sweet in milk chocolate, blueberries and blackberries. Easy to like, if a little pricey for what you get. - S.H. ** SOLD OUT **

Our 2008 Alexander Valley Cabernet is brilliant purple-red with an aroma reminiscent of Bakers chocolate, rhubarb pie, boysenberry and pipe tobacco. Its texture is medium weight, polished agate and bright with only a slight tug of firmness. It has flavors of Santa Rosa Plum, fresh olive oil, graham cracker, cassis, vanilla extract and white pepper. - WineryVARIETY:88% Cabernet Sauvignon11% Merlot1% MalbecALCOHOL: 13.9%LENGTH / TYPE OF AGING: 27 months barrel agedOAK TYPES: 50% New French Oak (Seguin Moreau, Taransaud & Saury), 10% New American Oak (Canton) ** SOLD OUT **
