Handley Cellars Chardonnay Estate Vineyard Anderson Valley 2007

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

This has on off-putting bit of egginess right up front, a bit reminiscent of the Tomago sweet egg omelet used in sushi! It’s a bit sweet with a powdered sugar and vanilla tone over perfumed pineapple and pear fruit. The entry shows a bit of that same sweetness with soft acids offering gentle support to the silky, bright, citrus and unripe apricot toned fruit. This has an earthy, leesy tone on the mid-palate that firms up on the back end but lacks a bit of fruit to help cover everything else. A lighter styled wine well suited to simple chicken dishes, something with spinach would probably work well here. 88pts

Our estate vineyard experiences cool foggy nights and bright sunny days, the perfect climate for the 12 acres of Pinot Noir, 13 acres of Chardonnay, and 5 acres of Gewürztraminer planted there. All of our Estate Chardonnay and sparkling wines are produced entirely from estate fruit, as are most of our reserve Pinot Noirs. Because vineyards in Anderson Valley are interspersed with homes and watersheds, Milla made the decision apply for organic certification, and the Estate Vineyard was CCOF certified in August 2005. José Jimenez, our Estate Vineyard manager, Kristen Barnhisel, our co-winemaker, and Bill Oldham, our consultant, work together as a team to keep our vines thriving. They use compost and mineral supplements to build the soil, thus fostering stronger plants that are less susceptible to disease. They avoid using pesticides and herbicides, allowing beneficial insects to flourish. Read less
Suggested Recipe Pairing presented by
Coconut Rice Sweet Potato Cheesecake

RiceSelect's creamy Arborio gets blended with sweet potato, coconut milk and vanilla to create this decadent cheesecake. Pairs well with Saunternes; a white dessert wine that has hints of coconut from aging in oak barrels.

Golden apples, bannana, some underlying lemon aromas. Nice acidity on palate, more lemon lime grapefruit notes, some melon characteristics
