Handcraft Cabernet Sauvignon California 2016

External Review by WineExpress.com:

HandCraft Artisan Collection wines celebrate the California home and Italian heritage of third generation winery proprietor Cheryl Indelicato. She gives classic grape varieties her own personal touch by adding a playful dash of Italian and heritage varietals as a nod to the vineyard-to-barrel field selections that found their place daily at the Italian table when she was growing up. The result is a distinctive, fruit forward wine. This Cab is a blend of 77% Cabernet Sauvignon, 21% Petite Sirah and 2% Sangiovese, aged 6 months in French and American oak barrels. Wine Enthusiast Magazine said "Fruity and herbal in flavor and generous in texture, this is medium to full bodied and quite smooth in mouth feel. It smells like currants, black olives and dried herbs, and tastes a bit savory and complex along with the plummy fruit flavors."

WINEMAKING: Grapes were hand-harvested in the cool of the night before being swiftly taken to the winery where they were de-stemmed into small lot fermenters. After a brief cold soak, the must was slowly warmed, allowing for enhanced color and flavor extraction. Once fermentation was complete, a portion of the wine was aged on a combination of French and American oak while another portion remained in stainless steel to provide the blending options for this bold and structured blend. We added a small amount of Sangiovese, an Italian grape variety, to the blend to help soften and smooth out the tannins, add bright fruit flavor components and enhance the voluptuous layers. TASTING NOTES: Robust aromas of black cherry, black peppercorn and violet greet your nose. The layers of flavor that follow are nothing short of fantastic with hints of black fruit compote, clove, spice and black currant. This full bodied wine is rich and robust with bold tannins that lead to a long and generous finish. No score yet for this much anticipated 2012 but the 2011 received rave reviews include a 94 point Platinum Medal from the Consumer Wine Awards in Lodi. And Wine Enthusiast Magazine named it a Best Buy and said "What a wonderful Cabernet this is for the price. It’s producer, Delicato, is one of the few wineries with wide enough access to fruit to be able to produce something this good and affordable. It’s softly gentle in black cherries, cola, mocha and dusty tannins, finishing with a long, sweet spiciness."

Robust aromas of cherry, blackberry, pepper and tobacco greet your nose. The layers of flavor that follow are nothing short of fantastic with hints of black cherry, clove, spice, currants and dark choco-late. This full bodied wine is rich and robust with round tannins that lead to a long and generous finish. Memorable.
