Hamilton Russell Vineyards the most southerly wine estate in Africa and the closest to the sea located in the cool maritime Walker Bay district in the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley behind the old fishing village of Hermanus. The estate specializes in producing highly individual terroir driven Pinot Noir and Chardonnay which are widely regarded as the best in South Africa and among the best in the New World.

A perfect marriage between Old World and New World exists in this Chardonnay from cool climate Walker Bay in South Africa. This is very Burgundian in style, with excellent balance and acidity, yet also manages to incorporate some fresh fruit. Full, complex, nutty-a fantastic wine.

Not quite as dense as the 2007, but still outstanding...90" WS 09/09 "Bright yellow with a golden tinge; much lighter than the 2007. Sexy, highly nuanced nose combines white peach, pineapple, iodiney minerality, musky ginger and leesy nuances, all lifted by a floral topnote; like a hypothetical blend of Meursault and Chassagne. Densely packed, brisk and deep, with lovely racy acidity and a rocky element giving a light touch and impressive energy to the flavors of citrus and stone fruits, nutmeg and minerals. Finishes very subtle and very long, with excellent grip. This has all the elements to please the Burgundy lover-and all in an understated way...92" IWC 03/09
