Hall Napa Valley Merlot 2005
Our 2005 Napa Valley Merlot is sourced from two of our premiere estate vineyards, Napa River Ranch and Hardester. The Hardester vineyard, with its rugged, low-yielding hillside vines, produces fruit with weight, density and broad structure. By contrast, the dry-farmed valley oor vines of Napa River Ranch contribute rich fruit with lively aromatics and a plush mouthfeel. A small amount of fruit from renowned sub-appellations beyond our vineyard portfolio further enhances the depth and complexity of this harmonious blend. Intense aromatics of cedar oak are accented by scents of roasted coffee beans and a hint of violets and roses. An open, textured palate of ripe briar fruit, dusty mocha and black pepper finishes with a surge of plum and soft tannin.

Red fruit on the nose, light and not particularly distinctive. Bright, acidic flavors, good spice and leather, and some oak. A very clean wine, it's most shining quality is the bit of wood spice on the long finish.
aromas filled with raspberries, red currants, and red plums. Some cinnamon and currants on the palate and loaded with berries with a tinge of smokiness and supple tannins
Deep garnet in the glass, aroma of cedar and dark berry. No decanting. Some tart berry, cigar and fine tannin on the first night - wine seemed flat. Berries developed more on the second night and came more into balance with the tannin. On the third night, this wine exploded in berry, cigar and english toffee balanced by nice tannic depth. Will decant the next bottle for at least a couple of hours before drinking.
We joined their wine club last year and have enjoyed this merlot as well as their 2005 cab.
