Hall Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2015

External Review by We Speak Wine:

Tasting Notes: This wine is deep garnet in color, exhibiting aromatic layered notes of dried fig, blackcurrant, black pepper, wet gravel, and dried basil. Mouth coating flavors of blackberry preserves, tobacco, anise, cocoa, and nutmeg develop on the palate. With a full spectrum of tannins, the wine is powerful, chewy, and round in texture integrating into a long smooth finish. Winegrowing Notes: This wine incorporates choice fruit from vineyards throughout Napa Valley, from our organic Estate Vineyards to small rugged hillside sites of our partner growers. By blending these various lots, we create a rich panorama on the palate _ a landscape of complexity and character that clearly depicts Napa Valley. Vintage Notes: An unseasonably warm spring brought early bloom and bud break. Temperatures cooled in May causing grape shatter, which resulted in uneven fruit set and reduced an already low crop yield. In reaction, vineyard crews worked even more diligently during verasion thinning to maintain even ripening of the clusters. As a result of the growing conditions, attention to detail in the vineyards, and a final pass through optical sorting equipment at the winery, the quality of the vintage is extremely high. Blend: 87% Cabernet Sauvignon 13% Merlot Alcohol: 15.8%

Tasting Notes: This wine exhibits a perfume of intertwining notes of dried fig, black current, black pepper, wet gravel, and dried thyme. Mouth-coating flavors of blackberry preserves, tobacco; cocoa nib and nutmeg develop on the palate along with a full spectrum of tannin in layers of powerful, chewy, and round texture that integrate into a long, polished finish. Winegrowing Notes: This wine incorporates choice fruit from vineyards throughout Napa Valley, from our organic estate vineyards to small rugged hillside sites of our partner growers. By blending these various lots, we create a rich panorama on the palate, a landscape of complexity and character that clearly depicts Napa Valley. Vintage Notes: The drought conditions helped contribute to an unusually early harvest in 2014. Substantial rain in early spring provided the vines enough hydration to sustain an otherwise dry summer. The entire season was early, from budbreak, to veraison, to harvest. Summer weather was perfect for the grapes, with no extremes or surprises. Fruit quality was exceptional, intensely aromatic and showcased great fruit character. Varietals: 96% Cabernet Sauvignon 3% Merlot 1% Cabernet Franc Barrel Aging: 22 Months Alcohol: 15.3% ** Only 3 in Stock **

The winery’s most approachable Cabernet when young, this features notes of chocolate-covered cherry and red and blue berry, intermixed with soft, yet substantial tannins. Peppercorn dances on the palate through the finish. A high-octane intensity suggests that the wine should spend more time in the cellar, through 2021.

This is fairly rich and concentrated, with excellent depth, exhibiting a range of flavors built around dark berry, mocha, espresso, cedar and tobacco notes, with ripe, interwoven tannins. Turns graceful midpalate, ending with a persistent finish. Drink now through 2024.

Deep red with ruby highlights. Aromas of plum, currant, mocha, coffee bean and musky smoky oak. A step up in density and sweetness from the merlot bottling, offering flavors of currant, spices and mocha. But still a wine of moderate depth and dimension, with tannins turning a bit dry with air.

The attractive 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa is a pretty, fruity (dark currants) effort with medium body and a short finish.
