Marked by ripe cherry and dark plum fruit, the wine is balanced with a fairly long finish. There is 20% Cabernet Franc blended in, which gives it a spicy twist lacking in many Merlots.

Monterey is the most heavily planted county on the west coast. Hahn produces wine in beautiful Santa Lucia Highlands Vineyards. Serve this complex and supple wine with grilled meats.

The rooster on the label (hahn means rooster in German) heralds the intense cherry and buttery smoothness of this Monterey merlot. Classic silkiness from a winery that continues to master the art of good wine-making.

Smells and tastes a little weedy, with green, stalky notes, but saved from disgrace by the pretty blackberry flavors and rich texture. Dry, with firm but easy tannins and good acids, this is a nice everyday sipper at a fair price.

One of the most exciting domestic Merlots we've had all year! Made by the award-winning winemakers from Smith & Hook, this Merlot is downright sinful. Lush and juicy, tempered by a touch of spice on the finish. What a lovely wine!

Doesn't have quite the concentration of many more expensive Merlots, but fills a nice niche in an affordable red wine that's full-bodied, dry and elegant. Offers pleasant flavors of cherries, red currants, cola and oak.
