Haan Wines Haan Semillon Sauvignon 2009

Winemaker's Notes:

The Haan philosophy was established right at the beginning with Hanenhof Vineyards being managed as a true Wine Estate. Providing the best possible conditions in the vineyards and the winemaking has been the key to success - along with a clear understanding of wine excellence. In the Australian Wine Companion 2009 Edition James Halliday gives Haan Wines a five star rating indicating that it is an outstanding winery capable of producing wines of the highest calibre. This wine continues the philosophy of the Hanenhof vineyard of making fine table wines of distinctive varietal character and individual style. The wine is made from Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc grown on the estate. Bright lemon hues with hints of youthful green impress with this lively fresh style. A lifted nose of tropical fruits with overtones of freshly cut hay. Delicious flavours of freshly cut tropical fruits combined with a lemon zest acidity which gives a superbly crisp and clean finish. The Semillon provides the fullness throughout the palate allowing the Sauvignon Blanc to provide a lifted floral freshness.

We travelled the world in search of the ultimate home for us, a place that would fulfil our dream of being makers of very special, unique wine. Many places charmed us -- Cyprus, France, Portugal, Spain, Madeira, New Zealand, Victoria, Tasmania, Margaret River and the Hunter Valley -- but we kept returning to the Barossa Valley, drawn by all it had to offer: 1. A unique district that maintains many of the great traditions lost in other areas. 2. A strong commitment to preserving a great vineyard heritage (where special wine starts!) rather than letting it be taken over by industry or sub-division. 3. A climate with four very distinct seasons. 4. A wonderful sense of community where everyone works together for the common good, taking pride in the achievements of one and all. Upon seeing our 45 acre (18 hectare) vineyard, initially purchased in 1853 by George Friedrich Schmidt for one pound an acre, we knew we had discovered the vineyard and home of our dream. The blend of the old classic Barossa feel and subtle Mediterranean influences in our home is a philosophy carried over to our wines. Read less
