Food Pairings for Gysler Silvaner Halbtrocken
This is my first Silvaner so I don't know what to expect. 2010 vintage, halbtrocken, from Rheinhessen. Has a very impressive aroma, similar to a pinot grigio or pinot blanc. Smell is very exciting but not terribly intense. Palate is a bit disappointing. Sweet and grassy. On second sip, has thyme and very mild candied ginger notes, lemongrass. Not very high in acidity, although the sugar could be covering this up. Reminds me of homemade white wines from Kansas, but with no sediment and more precision. More bitter than tart. Quaffable, quaffable wine. $12, 1 L
Slightly sweet, with hints of fruit and minerals. Light bodied. Fabulous with fish or veggies!
