were finished by December, I was originally going to bottle very early but as the wines aged, they began to taste better and better that I have held off. While I don't think that 2003 is a great vintage by any means as the wines are more marked by the character of the growing season than expressing the underlying terroir, it's a better vintage than I dared hope. Sharp-eyed readers will note the presence of a new wine, Le Porusot (sic) and Roulot said that he will also have a Meursault Narvaux next year. Many of the Roulot '02s finished at the top of my predicted ranges and a couple even exceeded them. I highly recommend them to you. (Kermit Lynch, Berkeley, CA and Parliament Wines, Atlantic City, NJ; Domaine Direct, John Armit, H&H Bancroft, Howard Ripley, La Réserve and Berkmann Wine Cellars, all UK). Note: 40 year old vines This is slightly but definitely fresher and brighter with a more discreet oak influence that complements the round but detailed and solidly if not brilliantly precise flavors that display lovely balance though not the sheer power and richness of the bigger wines in this range. In particular, the finish benefits from the pungent minerality as it adds both lift and firmness. In short, this is a fine if not genuinely great example of what is vintage in and vintage out usually a terrific wine.
