Gundlach Bundschu Pinot Noir Russian River Valley 2005
Tasting Notes: This medium-bodied Pinot Noir has a round structure that draws the ripe fruit flavors through a lingering finish of warm black plum, mineral and earth. Vineyard Notes: A small quantity of fruit is sourced from the Vadasz Vineyard to produce a wine exclusively for the Gundlach Bundschu Wine Club. Les & Judy Vadasz grow their Pinot Noir on the western side of Sonoma Valley, at the foothills of Sonoma Mountain. Two clones of Pinot Noir comprise this wine: Dijon 115 and Dijon 667. Winemaker Notes: After 15 months in barrel, the wine was lightly filtered to bottle.
This is one of the non-estate vineyards and I can see why GunBun got this fruit. This is a proper pinot noir. The vineyard is at the cross section of Sonoma Mountain, Sonoma Valley and Carneros. Nose has cherry, some woodiness and raspberrys. The wine is framed with good acidity, light tannins and has earthiness, spice and light red fruit.
Very good. No detailed notes, but worth repeating.
smells like roses. cherry tones. prefer Gundlach Bundschu's 2005 Pinot Noir, Vadasz Vineyard
Fantastic Pinot. I had a glass with my steak at Perry's in S.F. it was the last third of the bottle and didn't need to air much but a second glass from a new bottle was almost equally as nice. Can't wait to get a bottle and let it air for a day.
