Gundlach Bundschu Mountain Cuvee Red Blend 2010
Soft, rich aromas and flavors of blueberry preserves, red currants & vanilla cream, with a meaty texture and notes of sweet sage and herbs de provene. The long, chewy finish is full of dense berry and cocoa. A lush, fruit-forward wine intended to be enjoyed within five years of vintage. 52% Merlot, 43% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2% Malbec, 2% Petit Verdot and 1% Syrah.
Nice Sonoma bordeaux blend from Gundlach Bundschu. The immediate taste is the cabernet with some nice tannins and a bit of acidity. The secondary flavors come from the merlot which throws in some roundness and a touch of dark chocolate covered cherry.
One from the 'Flight No. 7: 'California Dreaming' had while waiting for a delayed flight at Love Field. From the CRU Tasting Notes - fairly accurate 'Supple and polished, with smokey herb, currant, mineral and dusty berry flavors, that firm up nicely ending with a loamy, earthy dried berry flavor.' Not bad at all and quite an enjoyable blend, definitely an 'old world' style.
