What to Expect

Viognier is one of the great grapes of France's Rhone Valley. It is an extremely aromatic variety redolent of ripe peaches and wild flowers. It is frequently used to add aromatic complexity to blended wines but on its own, delivers a rich, soft wine with high alcohol and deep flavors of honey, peach, apricot and tangerine.

Reviews

The powerful, fleshy 2003 Condrieu (two-thirds was aged in old oak and tank, and one-third in new oak) exhibits aromas of exotic fruits, peaches, lychee nuts, and apricots. Unctuously-textured with high alcohol (14.2%) and low acidity, it will provide plenty of pleasure over the next 1-2 years. -Wine Advocate

Pineapple, grapefruit and tangerine scents, complicated by flowers and subtle oak. Dense and chewy in the mouth, with a distinctly mentholated aspect. Amazingly penetrating for a wine with 14.8% alcohol. But this is bone-dry, with less than one gram per liter residual sugar. Powerful and very long on the aftertaste. Perhaps more structured than the equally rich 2000. -International Wine Cellar

Rating: 5/5 - As reviewed by Decanter Condrieu is the ultimate summer self-indulgence with its exotic white peach bouquet and unctuous stone fruit flavours. This is regularly the finest in the appellation, its rarity easily matched by its lingering pleasure. (SS)
