What to Expect

Viognier is one of the great grapes of France's Rhone Valley. It is an extremely aromatic variety redolent of ripe peaches and wild flowers. It is frequently used to add aromatic complexity to blended wines but on its own, delivers a rich, soft wine with high alcohol and deep flavors of honey, peach, apricot and tangerine.

Winemakers Notes

Goldgelbe Farbe , glanzklar. Intensive Düfte von vieloetten Blumen und Früchten (Aprikosen, weisse Pfirsiche und Zitrus). Frischer, runder, fettiger Wein mit viel Fülle und Weichheit. Ein eleganter und delikater Weisswein.

Condrieu is the original home of the Viognier vine, and is the source of one of the world's most exotic white wines. The tiny, parcelated appellation (500 acres total/200 planted) is located on steep hillsides beginning at a bend in the Rhone River just south of Cote Rotie and continuing intermittently about 12 miles further south. Marcel and Philippe Guigal supplement the production of their own Condrieu vineyards with a small amount of grapes purchased from growers, vinifying the wine in stainless steel (two-thirds) and barrique (one-third). The delicately elusive perfume suggests read more...

This wine posses a penetrating fragrance of flowers, white peaches, apricot and honey. Medium bodied with a decent acidity, and copious quantities of fresh, lively fruity, this vintage is delicate, elegant and delicious drinking over the next 3-4 years. Perfect as an aperitif, this wine is the ideal match for delicate Asian food.

Perhaps the finest basic cuvee Guigal has yet made, the 2006 Condrieu exhibits superb acacia flower, white peach, honeysuckle, and mineral characteristics in a medium to full-bodied, gorgeous style with zesty acidity in the background. Robert Parker. A Viognier wine from Rhone in France. 2006 Guigal Condrieu 750ml

Wine Tasting NotesClear, bright, gold yellow color. An intense flowery (violets)and fruity (apricot, white peach, citrus fruit) nose. Fresh, crisp and full. Plenty of fat, richness and smoothness for a dry wine. A harmonious balance between a pleasant, low acidity and full, fleshy fruit. A great deal of elegance and finesse.

A clear medium+ intensity lemon-gold colored wine fading to a thin, pale rim.
A clean nose with pronounced youthful aromas of apricot, peach, honeysuckle, honey, flowers, nuttiness, and sweet spice. An oak creaminess, strong minerality and alcohol are all apparent on the nose.
In the mouth, a dry wine with low to medium acidity, medium+ body and low tannins. Pronunced fruit flavors of apricot, spice, orange zest, fling, honey, smoked meat(!), and flowers. Very luscious. Medium+ alcohol with long length and a silky glycerol finish on apricot fruit. A balanced white wine with lots read more...
