Marcel Guigal - the so-called "pivot" of the Cote-Rotie appellation - is both an owner and négociant, and vinifies over 40% of all Cote-Rotie. His father, Etienne, started out quite modestly in 1946, and over the last 60 years the company has grown to encompass all that can be the best in the Rhone Valley. Not only known for the massive hits in Hermitage and Cote-Rotie, the Guigal name is synonymous with quality all along the scale, from the humble Cotes-du-Rhone to the Big Three - La Landonne, La Mouline and La Turque. 2003 was a year that saw meager crops, intense concentration and a substantial read more...increase in client interest.
Ruby-red, less saturated than the Hermitage. Cool aromas of black fruits, violet face powder, pepper and tar. Tightly wound on the palate, with pepper and herbal notes currently dominating the wine's dark berry component. But opened nicely with air to show good density and richness and sappy precision of flavor. Quite aromatic and bright in the mouth. Finishes with fine, peppery tannins and excellent persistence. Classic Cote-Rotie. (hide)

- Guigals Cote Rotie is a wine of finesse and complexity which ages beautifully, developing aromas and flavors of black pepper, spice, licorice, and game. It is one of the great wines of the world.
