This is light and bright with a lovely, fresh nose of apples ready for pie, touched with a little lemon and spice and just the faintest notion of butter crust. In the mouth the wine is a bit more linear than the nose would suggest but it offers up a balanced mouthful of moderately intense fruit with good length. 87pts

On second tasting, I got a citrus herbal nose with cris pear and walnuts on the body. Really enjoyable.

There are some crisp, citrus aromatics combined with tangerine/nectarine characteristics on the palate. Refreshing, easy drinking, a nice wine to bring to a friend's party

Really nice bubbles. Not as much biscuit flavor as I tend to like, but there was some nice light fruit in its place. It's also from New Mexico, so definitely worth a try for the novelty.

With the idea of producing a sparkling wine in the early 1980s, Gilbert Gruet of the Champagne House Gruet et Fils decided to plant an experimental vineyard in New Mexico. He dedicated it to Pinot Noir and Chardonnay exclusively. High altitude and sandy-loamy soil proved to offer a retention of grape acidity and the ability to grow without the use of pesticides. With a delicate mousse, Gruet’s classic Brut blend of 75 percent Chardonnay and 25 percent Pinot Noir showcases varietal Chardonnay aromas of green apple, citrus and tropical fruit. While en tirage for 24 months, this sparkler developed intriguing toasty notes, roundness on the palate from the Pinot Noir component and good length, creating a pleasurable, extended finish that remains crisp and refreshing while simultaneously rich and complex. It’s a lovely aperitif pour on its own or matched with a first course of delicate white-fleshed fish.

A crisp and full-bodied sparkling wine, which has developed rich complexity and fine mousse. The allure of a toasty finish is a complement to the sophisticated apple and citrus flavor.

A transplanted family from Champagne chose the micro-climates of New Mexico for the richness of the grapes that the area produced. The result is a fine sparkler combining very ripe fruit and a nice round texture.
