Groth Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville Reserve 2005

Winemaker's Notes:

INSIDER SCOOP: This renowned Napa icon winery is "back" (!) after replanting their estate vineyards. The new releases are better than ever, achieving the winery's highest rating since their renowned 1994 release! WINE SPECTATOR "OUTSTANDING 94" RATING: "This has wonderful richness, density and focus, with tiers of smoky plum, currant, blackberry, loamy earth, sage and underbrush notes. Though firmly tannic, there's a measure of finesse and polish. Ends with a long, rich, persistent finish. The best Groth Reserve in years. Best from 2009 through 2015. JL"

I loved it. Great nose of dark fruit and chocolate. Long, big finish. I'm running out to get some more for a great occassion. Too expensive to drink everyday, even in this economy (LOL!)

Tight and concentrated, with a dense, rich, chewy beam of dried currant, mineral, graphite, black cherry and blackberry fruit thatrsquo;s intense and full-blown, both flexing its muscle while displaying deft balance. Ends with a compact, layered finish. Best from 2012 through 2022. Tasted twice, with consistent notes.

The 2008 Groth Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve reveals slightly more fruit, but again the nose seems so filtered that there is just not much left in it. It does possesses slightly more density (perhaps because of the low yields), elegance and a touch of sweetness. A medium-bodied, pleasant offering.

Big and lush with huge gobs of fruit in the aroma and flavor. The texture of the wine is soft and supple.

Warm, dark currant jam and spice nose. Ripe, lots of sweet raspberry fruit. Spicy. Excellent length and balance. Young, but very fine. From 2014.
