Editorial Reviews for Groth Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville
Quite complex on the nose with plenty of savory oak-derived spice but one also finds insinuations of herbs, fudge, espresso, and truffle notes embedded in dark, plummy fruit. This is crisp and seamless on entry, though a paradox of freshness and very ripe fruit flavors. The oak is well integrated, not nearly as prevalent as on the nose forming a backdrop for the dried plummy fruit that does see some red cherry, red currant shadings emerge with air. The tannins are well measured, adding a touch of volume yet remaining mostly discreet right through finish, which does show plenty of oak toast-derived nuances as well as red berry fruit leading to a touch of heat and sweetness on the finale. 91pts

(664 views) Tasted by edarrincox on 10/7/2012 & rated 92 points: Great Cab. Dark fruit, smooth tannins, nice finish. (688 views) Tasted by yofog on 9/13/2012 & rated 88 points: A bit baked on the nose, hot on the palate. I don't think it was mishandled, just not an impressive wine at that price. (1239 views) Tasted by JustOneMore on 9/7/2012 & rated 91 points: Drinks well now. Plenty of dark fruit and lighter tannins. Some vanilla or oak may be present, but not a whole lot. Also not terribly complex, but very good. I don't know how well this will age. The tannins and alcohol are in balance, but not blockbusters, and in several years may be too muted and rate a lower score. I'd make this my go-to bottle only for the next few years. (1239 views) Tasted by Yack Man on 8/15/2012 & rated 90 points: I like this Cab. My thoughts have not changed on this wine. Patience will be rewarded, but drinking very nicely right now. (2076 views) Tasted by Yack Man on 6/24/2012 & rated 90 points: Winner! Give it time to evolve in your cellar, or decant and enjoy it now. I see another 1-2 points with a little time on the side. I have never tried the Reserve, but now I am curious and will have to try it. I would expect a bigger, full bodied, more concentrated, intense wine. (2944 views) Tasted by Anonymous on 6/20/2012 & rated 93 points: Smooth yet powerful cab with a balanced expression of fruit, oak and tannins. This is good now, but will probably benefit from some more cellaring also. (3007 views) Tasted by Yack Man on 6/15/2012 & rated 90 points: This is very nice vintage. It is polished, good structure with a youthful richness that needs to develop, BUT if decanted is very enjoyable right now. I can hardly wait to experience how this vintage will evolve. Clearly young but loaded with big potential 90++ (2998 views) Tasted by jriggleman on 6/3/2012 & rated 93 points: silky tannins with a nice ripe dark berry aroma, awesome Cab for the price!
One of my favorite cabs. It does need to breathe a good bit now. 2006 is a bit better at the moment but I feel confident the 2007 bottles I have tucked away will mature nicely over the next few years. The previous taste descriptions are accurate.
Soft cab with good mouthfeel. Smooth and supple with good tannins. Black cherry, smoke and spice. Short finish.
This is a really nice bottle. Medium body and lots of bright red fruits and blackberry. Well rounded tannins and smooth mouth feel. This is a crowd pleaser.

Dazzling. Easily the best Groth Cabernet in many years, dry, full-bodied and crazily rich in blackberries, cherries, tobacco and new oak. The ripe, sweet fruit is held in check by brisk acidity and firm tannins, resulting in an exciting tension. Beau... Wine Enthusiast. A Cabernet Sauvignon wine from California in USA. 2008 Groth Cabernet Sauvignon 750ml
Grows on you. Rich and earthy, with complex herb, currant, sage and cedary oak notes, all folding together nicely and finishing in a concentrated aftertaste. Best from 2002 through 2010.
Rustic, displaying a loamy, earthy streak that runs through a tight mix of graphite, dried currant and herbal sage notes. Full-bodied, ending with drying tannins. Drink now through 2016. Tasted twice, with consistent notes.
The 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon is big and lush with huge gobs of fruit in the aroma and flavor. The texture of the wine is soft and supple, typical of Cabernet Sauvignons grown in our area of the Oakville AVA. - Winery
Packs in lots of ripe and complex currant, tea and cedary oak flavors, with touches of green herb and tobacco, and finishes with firm, crisp tannins. Needs time. Best from 2003 through 2010.

Menu suggestion: “A slab and a Cab”, Dennis Groth recommends you drink his Cabernet Sauvignon with steak.
