Groth Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville 2005

Winemaker's Notes:

The 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon is big and lush with huge gobs of fruit in the aroma and flavor. The texture of the wine is soft and supple, typical of Cabernet Sauvignons grown in our area of the Oakville AVA. Patience during bottle aging will reward the “steward” with an outstanding bottle over the next 10 to 15 years.

Soft cab with good mouthfeel. Smooth and supple with good tannins. Black cherry, smoke and spice. Short finish.

This is a really nice bottle. Medium body and lots of bright red fruits and blackberry. Well rounded tannins and smooth mouth feel. This is a crowd pleaser.

Grows on you. Rich and earthy, with complex herb, currant, sage and cedary oak notes, all folding together nicely and finishing in a concentrated aftertaste. Best from 2002 through 2010.

Ripe, with chunky cherry and currant flavors, a touch of earthiness and some coffee and weedy herbal notes. The texture is smooth and polished and it turns elegant and supple on the finish.

Tighter and earthier than many '01 Napa Cabs, and not offering as much decadent enjoyment, although it's still a good wine. Full-bodied and oaky, with a touch of raisins.

Packs in lots of ripe and complex currant, tea and cedary oak flavors, with touches of green herb and tobacco, and finishes with firm, crisp tannins. Needs time. Best from 2003 through 2010.

Ripe and forward, with rich, tasty black cherry and red currant flavors that are elegant and vibrant, with refined, even delicate, nuances that give it a supple mouthfeel. Drink now through 2009.

Rustic, displaying a loamy, earthy streak that runs through a tight mix of graphite, dried currant and herbal sage notes. Full-bodied, ending with drying tannins. Drink now through 2016. Tasted twice, with consistent notes.

Sweet scents of vanilla extract masterfully blended with black cherry and blackberry aromas. In the mouth flavors are lush, with gobs of fruit and a soft, supple texture typical of Cabernet grown in the Oakville district.
