Clear yellow color. Slightly noticeable oak on the nose. Bone dry on the palate, strong grapefruit flavor with associated acid. Look forward to having this with tonight's grills chicken breasts. Slight "fizzy" sensation on the tongue. US$23.99 at Total Wine.

Wines from Grgich are just so easy for me to appreciate. Fresh, bright citrus and mineral is softened by subtle oak notes. Yes, it's Fumé Blanc. But it's not stereotypical Fumé Blanc. Balanced, well-crafted, and perfect with grilled fish tacos or some other tasty summer fare. I always wish I had more restraint with these wines - I'd love to see how it'll taste in a few years.

All of Grigich Hills vineyards are certified organic and Biodynamic. This holistic farming practice uses the earth’s natural cycles and organic preparations to grow balanced, healthy vines without artificial fertilizers, pesticides, or fungicides. These Sauvignon Blanc grapes come from their American Canyon and Carneros vineyards in the southern tip of Napa Valley, near San Pablo Bay, which spills into San Francisco Bay. The coolness restrains vigor and allows the grapes to develop a crisp liveliness that is impossible to achieve in warmer areas. About 80% of the Sauvignon Blanc is planted to the Musque clone, which provides elegant floral aromatics. Relying on naturally-occurring yeasts, 80% of the grapes are fermented in 900-gallon French oak casks, called foudres, with the remainder in previously-used small French oak barrels. The wine was then aged six months on its lees (the spent yeast) in neutral barrels. These techniques add body while showcasing the wonderful fruit, not masking it behind new oak.

Bright and racy, featuring clear lemony flavors supported by sweet pea, lime zest, passion fruit and grapefruit notes. Appealing for its intensity and mouthwatering finish.
