What to Expect

California's Napa Valley has been a source of world-class Cabernet Sauvignon for well over a century. Its warm climate and varied terrain allows for many styles of wine. One thread that runs through almost all the Cabernet based wines from Napa is their lush, ripe full-bodied feel and rich flavors of currant and berry. Wines from the valley floor, particularly around Rutherford, are famed for a dusty quality and those coming from the hillsides surrounding the valley, Mt. Veeder, Diamond Mountain and Howell Mountain for example, tend to be a little leaner with more obvious structural elements.

Winemakers Notes

trademark bouquet of intense cassis and cedar, followed by more subtle nuances of roses, licorice, and dried cherries. On the palate, rich extraction is balanced by moderate tannins and acidity. Ripe black fruit, plums, and dark cherries harmonize in the mouth with notes of cigar box, anise, and spicy oak to form this elegant, full-bodied wine. The finish is concentrated and persistent, with layers of mocha, caramel, cassis, cherries, and vanilla. This young, structured wine should mature well over the next several years, developing additional complexity and depth of flavor.

Editorial Reviews

A freaking fruit bomb, texturally plush, viscous and mouth filling, with waves of dark, sweet fruit flavors, spicy oak tones and lovely nuanced chili and herb accents that are pure and deep. This is open for business in an opulent, friendly in your face style. Too much wine for me! 84pts

Most of the fruit for this wine comes from Ggrich’s dry-farmed Yountville vineyard, which went biodynamic the year before. The remainder of the fruit was sourced from the estate’s organic parcels in Rutherford and Calistoga. This is a classic Bordeaux-blended wine, apparently made with little intervention. The red fruit, which has some sweetness and some dried qualities, is in check, in that it’s perfectly ripe without being over-blown. There is a touch of mint and dried herbs in the nose. The wine is nearly perfectly balanced with beautiful acidity, and a bit of astringency on a long read more...

Wine Tasting NotesNicely balanced between fruit and tannin, this elegant wine is rich with aromas of black cherry, crushed rose petals and cocoa powder. This full bodied wine goes well with roasted meats, grilled Portobello mushrooms or a firm cows milk cheese such as Edam or Gouda.

Our Yountville vineyard, which we began farming biodynamically in 2003, supplies the main body of our Napa Valley blend. Nicely balanced between fruit and tannin, this elegant wine is rich with aromas of black cherry, crushed rose petals and cocoa powder. This full bodied wine goes well with roasted meats, grilled Portobello mushrooms or a firm cow's milk cheese such as Edam or Gouda. An early spring and a warm summer created perfect growing conditions for one of theearliest harvests we've had in 10 years. This produced a small crop of fully-ripe grapes with wonderful concentration read more...
