What to Expect

Australia has certainly made Syrah its own, even bestowing it with a new name: Shiraz. In the warm, dry climate of Australia this noble grape, responsible for some of the grandest wines of France, produces an intense, unique expression that is distinctly Australian. The ripe grapes take on classic notes of black pepper and leather that add depth and complexity to the black cherry and plum fruits on the palate. Australian Shiraz has typically been aged in American Oak barrels which impart the wine with a distinct note of vanilla that can add to the impression of ripeness many of these wines have, but the time in barrel also allows the wines a chance to settle and reveal their rich, voluptuously styled mouthfeel.

Winemakers Notes

A deep dark red with purple hues; intense lifted aromas of ripe dark plum blackberry sweet vanillin and spice with light subtle hints of blueberry and blackcurrant fruit all portend to a generous palate that is full flavored balanced and long. The mid palate's ripe berry flavors will with time reveal more complex characters such as dark chocolate liquorice wood smoke and warm leather as the wine ages and evolves.

Reviews

was impressed by this wine. For a reasonable value, got a nice focused wine, a strong berry and cedar flavors and a decently long finish. Kind of a tight nose.

Strong herbal nose, which leads to a minty, wine with nose of herb encrusted lamb. Short finish.

The Greg Norman Estates 2004 Limestone Coast Shiraz displays lifted varietal aromas of dark plum, black cherry and spice. The rich palate shows dark berry, plum and ripe cherry flavors supported by well-integrated spicy oak. Supple fine tannins provide good structure and texture to the sweet plum and blackberry flavors and ensure a long elegant finish.

This Shiraz from Australia's Limestone Coast is made from vineyards grown on shallow red soils overlyinghard limestone. Dark plum and black cherry are enhanced with a touch of spicy oak and followed by suppole, yet supportive tannins.
