Nicer than I expected. As a true fan of the Margaret River chardonnays, the Yarra Valley can be iffy for me. This was a pleasant surprise, with more stone fruit than I would have expected. Still had the citrus/melon I expect from Yarra Valley and more oak than they seem to use out west. Oddly, it is a bigger (and better wine) once it has a chance to warm a bit.

Green Point Chardonnay 2005 has a pale straw yellow colored wine with green tints. Complex aromas of fresh peaches, grapefruit rind and cinnamon combine with spicy vanillin oak. Stone fruit and citrus flavors develop on the palate and are enhanced by a creamy texture derived from 6 months of lees stirring. Subtle flint and savory flavors extend the palate and provide a lingering, crisp finish.
The Green point chardonnay reserve 2005 wine has a fragrant aroma of white peach, lemon butter and honeydew enhanced by subtle, fresh roasted hazelnut and cashew aromas derived from barrel fermentation. On the palate, lemon, grapefruit and white peach flavors provide a racy, fresh entry before leading to a creamy and smooth mid palate.

Green Point was established by the Champagne house Moët & Chandon over 20 years ago in the Yarra Valley, in the southeastern state of Victoria. Cool ocean breezes create ideal conditions for the grapes to develop ripe fruit flavors, while retaining their elegance, finesse, and complexity.
