Grattamacco Bolgheri Superiore 2015

Member Review by EQWinemd:

Hand carried a bottle of 2015 back from Italy this Spring and finally opened it tonight. Worth every extra lug of the suitcase- rich dark cherry and plum on the nose with depth that did not disappoint in the mouth. Can't wait to go back to Italy to get more!

Sattes Rubinrot, herrliche Frucht, riecht nach dunklen Beeren, frisch, zeigt Körper und Fülle, weiche Tannine. Langer Abgang. Toller Zweitwein von Grattamacco! Produktion nur 18000 Flaschen.

Founded in 1977, Grattamacco has 29 acre of vines on a hilltop facing the sea in Tuscany’s beautiful Bolgheri district with calcareous, marl and clay soils. This region has proven to be an ideal setting for Cabernet in Italy. The vineyards are densely planted with 2,000 mature vines per acre, keeping yields low. This wine is a blend 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Cabernet Franc, 10% Merlot and 10% Sangiovese aged 10 months in French oak barriques. Wine Spectator scored this 90 points saying “This shows some herbal aromas in the mix, but also sweet cherry and berry flavors accented by vanilla and toast. On the fruity side, yet with firm tannins. Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Sangiovese. Best from 2012 through 2017.”

Sattes, funkelndes Rubin.

This, their flagship wine is produced from vines averaging 25 years of age. A blend of 65 % Cabernet Sauvignon, 20 % Merlot and 15% Sangiovese, the wine is aged for 18 months in French oak barrels. This wine received raves all around including 94 points from the Wine Advocate who said "The flagship 2008 Bolgheri Superiore Grattamacco is beautifully delineated and articulate in this vintage. Sweet red cherries, flowers, spices and licorice are some of the notes that emerge from the glass. This is a decidedly bright, elegant Grattamacco that impresses for its fabulous overall balance and understated, classy personality. Firm, yet well integrated tannins and insistent minerality suggest the wine will drink well for many years, although to tell the truth, it is pretty delicious today. Grattamacco is Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Sangiovese. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2028."

Ein Wein von echter Bolgheri Seele. Harmonisch, elegant, komplex und weich, wird mit langer Ablagerung immer besser. Rubinrot, blumig, intensiv, fruchtig, Röstaromen und würzig.
