External Reviews for Graham's Vintage Port
Winemaker's Notes:
Established in 1820, W & J Graham is one of the most famous names in the Port Trade and has long been synonymous with the greatest Vintage Ports. The Symington Family acquired the company from the Graham’s family in 1970, so today Graham’s remains a wholly family-owned firm. At the heart of Graham’s Port is the famous Quinta dos Malvedos in the upper reaches of the Douro Valley. The old winery was completely renovated in 2000 and it is now equipped with three of the revolutionary robotic lagares that ‘tread’ the grapes. Alongside these are the ancient granite lagares where some of the harvest is still trodden by human foot. The 1991 vintage is a real stalwart wine with a very attractive nose reminiscent of blackberries and violets. It is still very firm in the mouth with masses of tannins and intensely rich, succulent fruit. This port is superb quality, and is showing great promise for long term ageing. James Suckling reviewed this for Wine Spectator, giving it 93 points and saying, "Getting better all the time in the bottle. Real blockbuster of a wine that sneaks up on you. Beautiful tar, grape and berry aromas and flavours. It's full-bodied, quite sweet and reserved, but kicks off at the end with loads of fruit and tannins. Tasted twice with consistent notes."
