User Reviews for Graham Beck Old Road Pinotage

Winemaker's Notes:

VARIETY: 100% Pinotage VINTAGE: 2001 CELLAR: Franschhoek Cellar AREA OF ORIGIN: Franschhoek VINEYARD: The “Old Road” vineyard planted in 1971 on our Franschhoek estate beneath the mountain on deep well drained gravel loam soils, producing 4 tonnes per hectare. HARVEST DETAILS: Handpicked in mid-February 2001. CELLAR TREATMENT: After destalking the wine was pumped into open fermenters with 3 pump downs per day. Fermented dry on the skins at 28°C after 6 days. Malolactic fermentation followed and the wine was then transferred into new French and American Oak barriques for 12 months. A light egg white fining was added before bottling. COOPER: 100% New American 225 litre barrels – Seguin Moreau, Schahinger and Vicard. TASTING NOTES: “Rich, plum and dark chocolate flavours intermingled with delicate clove flavours. Ripe fruit tannins for a structured mouthfeel, succulent and full. Elegant, long finish.” SERVING: Any full flavoured dishes, meat, pasta or cheese – even baked puddings. Will mature in the bottle for a further 8-10 years. ANALYSIS: Alcohol: 13.76 % vol Residual Sugar: 1.66g/l pH: 3.43 Total Acid: 5.58g/l
