Suggested Recipe Pairing presented by
Coconut Rice Sweet Potato Cheesecake

RiceSelect's creamy Arborio gets blended with sweet potato, coconut milk and vanilla to create this decadent cheesecake. Pairs well with Saunternes; a white dessert wine that has hints of coconut from aging in oak barrels.

A very pretty nose of fresh flowers, citrus and creamy toast leads into a balanced, rich Chardonnay-like character on the palate. Minerally, clean, fresh but serious, this wine is food-friendly and elegant.

Pale copper-tinged gold. Tangerine, spicy oak and a hint of exotic fruits on the nose. Fruity and harmonious, with a yeasty complexity adding depth to the fairly dense, harmonious middle palate. Comes across as sweeter and fuller than the Blanc de Blanc, but finishes dry and crisp, with a bit more length. No shortage of flavor here.

The bouquet is quite fruity and has a lingering hint of just-kneaded bread dough; firm and crisp on the palate entry, ripe citrus flavors slowly unfold, turning toward sweet apple towards the finish; impressive body and structure.

Benchmark fizz with lovely balance between crisp, appley Chardonnay and aromatic Pinot Noir. Fine mousse and light yeast aromas. Creamy palate and good length.

Winemaker's Notes:

Graham Beck is a giant of the South African wine scene and has led the country's thundering success since the end of Apartheid in 1994, a year that saw Nelson Mandela toast his inauguration as President with a flute of Beck's Brut NV. Fizz remains a key part of the Beck portfolio and the sparkling wines are rightly recognised as among the best in the New World. Based in Robertson, a second cellar in Franschhoek has been built to further extend the company's potential. Pieter 'Bubbles' Ferreira retains overall control of the winemaking with the talented Erika Obermeyer and Irene Waller heading up the Franschhoek and Robertson wineries respectively. This finely crafted creation with its charming silver-pink blush and exuberant character is a Cap Classique destined for those who appreciate a fizz with a flair. Aromas of raspberries, cherries and a few secondary whiffs of minerality are expressed on the nose. On the palate there is a deliciously lively, though fine, mousse with subtle red berry flavours. It is brisk, with hints of oyster shell and lavender. Overall, flirtatious and fun with pin-prick tiny bubbles that burst gently and exhilaratingly on your tongue, its a tingle no celebration or sunset should be without.!
