Graffigna Syrah 2000

Member Review by DjoleBGD:

This wine is a wine book example of what a proper Shiraz could/should be (keep in mind that Shiraz, although being a different name for Syrah, tends to differ due to different climate regions in South America/Australia compared to France). Full bodied, tannic, acid-free, sweetish, oily... Chocolate, pepper, smoke, nectar, lilly, frankincense. This wine gives much more than you'd expect from its price range. I highly recommend it, a deffinite must!

Graffigna, with a winemaking tradition that spans 140 years, has the honor of being the oldest winery in the Argentine province of San Juan, the second oldest in the country and the first winery in Argentina to sell branded wines. Today, Graffigna is one of Pernod Ricard's four global wine brands and iconic of Argentina's progress as a quality wine producer. In recent years, as part of our philosophy of continuous improvement, Graffigna launched a viticulture study and development process in San Juan with the support of an international team of experts led by Victor Marcantoni and with the consultancy of renowned winemaker Phil Laffer. An ambitious investment plan was also deployed. In order to increase production and storage capacity, cutting-edge agricultural technology, equipment and production techniques were incorporated.   In 2009, Graffigna was named "Winery of the Year" in the USA by The Critics Challenge and Graffigna Centenario became the most awarded Malbec of 2007-2008. Moreover, in 2010, Graffigna's Malbecs (Grand Reserve and Centenario) were awarded with 90 points by acclaimed critic Robert Parker. Today, Graffigna continues to consistently embrace innovation without relinquishing its rich history and tradition. Read less

Five glasses

Tasting Notes:

This wine has a clear deep ruby color with an elegant fruit and floral nose. On the palate it has flavors of raspberry, cherry with a touch of vanilla and spice. It has a dry, medium to full body with firm tannins and a touch of smoke to finish.
