Funky on the nose with plenty of hints of truffle, game, and pencil eraser over plummy, dried berry, black cherry and herb laced fruit. A bit plump on entry, but with plenty of acidity to keep this focused in the mouth. There's plenty of truffle and black currant fruit right on entry, then it lightens up a bit and reveals a bit more detail with raspberry and cranberry flavors emerging along with a gamy, beefy edge on the back end. The fruit is clear and persistent on the finish which still shows some tannin and a hint of peppery spice but leaves the palate refreshed, if a touch hot. This is an excellent value. 88pts

Bordeaux Blend of 44% Cabernet Sauvignon, 26% Merlot, 25% Syrah, 5% Malbec. Even though the Cab is the dominant varietal in terms of percentage it definitely does not drive the flavor and character of this wine. Deep purple in color with a nose of ripe cherries and red plum and a similar palate that finishes with a very slight hint of pepper. Primarily fruit forward with very little else to add to the character. This is still a nice wine with a lush mouth feel.

This blend has a big, dark, toasty edge to the tannins, and plenty of ripe fruit. Meaty and rich, the color of ink, it skirts a pruney border, tosses in some earth and leather and soy, and overall shows plenty of power. A great drink-it-now wine. P.G.
