Goose Ridge Vineyards Riesling Estate Bottled 2006

Member Review by Onin24eagle:

This wine has apple on the nose. Not granny smith like a lot of the German rieslings do but more like Red Delicious. There is also a floral note and a touch of cinnamon. Apple comes through again on the palate and a distinct note of butterscotch on the finish. The wine finishes clean with decent acidity but nowhere near the level of acidity and minerality I have found in most German rieslings. All in all, I don't really care for it. It doesn't help that I really do not like butterscotch. If not for that I might give it a little higher rating. I'd give it 2 1/2 glasses, maybe 3, but like I said, I can't stand butterscotch and I taste that very distinctly on the finish. For me it's a pass. If you like butterscotch you may enjoy this one.

The Monson family's vineyard is planted on a south-facing slope in Washington's Columbia Valley adjacent to Red mountain that consistently yields rich, ripe grapes. Acclaimed winemaker Charlie Hoppes has his pick of the vineyard. Fermenting and aging wines in small lots from a handful of blocks carefully selected for their exceptional character and complexity is exactly what the Monsons had in mind for Goose Ridge when they founded the winery in 1999. The family has farmed in the Columbia Valley for four decades and is known for their commitment to quality. Goose Ridge Vineyard is built on that tradition. Read less
