Goose Ridge Cabernet Sauvignon Columbia Valley 2008

Member Review by enophiliac:

What I love about this wine is for $21.99 you can drink a wine that is opulent enough for the California fan and structured enough for the francophile. It's a very passionate wine that offers an incredible mouthful of Cabernet for essentially pittance. To put it into perspective, the same wine in California would hit the 35-45 mark in any retail shop. 91pts WS

The Monson family's vineyard is planted on a south-facing slope in Washington's Columbia Valley adjacent to Red mountain that consistently yields rich, ripe grapes. Acclaimed winemaker Charlie Hoppes has his pick of the vineyard. Fermenting and aging wines in small lots from a handful of blocks carefully selected for their exceptional character and complexity is exactly what the Monsons had in mind for Goose Ridge when they founded the winery in 1999. The family has farmed in the Columbia Valley for four decades and is known for their commitment to quality. Goose Ridge Vineyard is built on that tradition. Read less
Suggested Recipe Pairing presented by
Layered Rice Pudding

RiceSelect's fragrant Jasmati® is blended with eggs, milk and fall's favorite spices, cinnamon and nutmeg, to create a delicious rice pudding, which is layered on top of fluffy cream cheese and abuttery pecan crust. Pairs well with a bold, tawny port with flavors of dried fruits, nuts, and spices.

Winemaker Notes - Our 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon is a complex and elegant wine that balances fruit and oak flavors. Dark cherry, dark berry and currant mingle with notes of tobacco and spice. Well-integrated tannins create a bold, yet silky wine with a long finish. This wine was aged for 22 months in 65% French oak and 35% American oak barrels. 40% new and 60% previously used.

91 Points - Wine Spectator Bright and focused, this juicy Cabernet delivers blueberry, currant and tar aromas and flavors that play through a veil of fine tannins. The finish lingers, picking up a peppery note. Best from 2009 through 2015. 450 cases made.
