Goldschmidt Vineyards Merlot Chelsea United States-California-Sonoma 2009
When people look for a Merlot they are seeking out a wine that has depth and volume of fruit in the mouth. Too often Merlot under-delivers with dry tannins and a distinct lack of fruit. What I look for in making this wine is a Cabernet-type Merlot. One that is full and ripe and totally over-delivers. Fresh fruit is the order of the day but one with depth and complexity that only comes from great vineyards and meticulous winemaking. This wine is 100% from one vineyard and made with the utmost care. Hand sorted prior to crushing, long time on skins and great balance from wood. The wine is black cherry with a nice balance of spice and weight from wood. A true representation of great Merlot.
Each Goldschmidt Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon profiles a single vineyard, single varietal wine that showcases the optimum silhouettes of Cabernet Sauvignon from Alexander Valley and Napa.
