What to Expect

Cabenet Sauvignon: Originally of French origins, this versatile grape produces exceptional wines around the globe. It's usually medium to full bodied with a fine structure that supports black and red fruit flavors with typical notes of olive, chili and herbs that add complexity.

Winemakers Notes

Taken from the top 10% of barrels (only 2 barrels) this wine is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon that is aged in new French Oak for 12 months and then gently gravity racked into a second new French Oak barrel for an additional 12 months. Goldschmidt Plus is about the sweet spot of the exclusive 5 acre Vyborny Vineyard PLUS and additional year of aging.

Chosen as the top 10 Wine of Year by Wine Enthusiast Magazine with a score of 95 points, this extremely rare and exciting Cabernet is produced by the man who headed up wine making at Simi vineyards for more than a decade. Nick Goldschmidt produces millions of cases of fine wine at Clos du Bois, Beauna Vista, William Hill, Atlas Peak and many more renowned California wineries but Goldschmidt Vineyard is all his own. This is where he creates extraordinary small lot wines from the vineyards and terroir that he knows so well. had a single glass of this amongst friends who opened this. ahhh, this was good, but i believe it was opened too early. i have several of these in cellar and i believe it will be several more years at least before it's time.

95 pts from Wine Enthusiast! - "Cabernet collectors who look beyond Napa Valley should be aware of this wine. Its an important addition to the Alexander Valley pantheon, a densely layered young wine. Shows brilliant red stone fruit, cassis, cola, date nut bread, mocha and tangerine zest flavors gorgeously lavished with the vanilla and smoky caramel of oak. Just delicious now, and should slowly spread its wings for many years." S.H. (5/1/2008 Issue)
