Goldschmidt Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon Plus Vyborny Vyd. Alexander Valley 2007

External Review by WineExpress.com:

This extremely rare and exciting Cabernet is produced by the man who headed up wine making at Simi vineyards for more than a decade. Nick Goldschmidt produced millions of cases of fine wine at Clos du Bois, Buena Vista, William Hill, Atlas Peak and many more renowned California wineries. Goldschmidt Vineyards is all his own. This is where he creates extraordinary small lot wines from the vineyards and terroir that he knows so well. The Vyborny vineyard where the 100% Cabernet grapes for this wine are sourced is a 5 acre plot with old vines and southeast exposure. The grapes are fermented slowly over four weeks and the wine is aged in French Taransaud oak barrels for 36 months. The PLUS is a selection of the very best barrels. Wine Enthusiast Magazine scored this 94 points saying "Goldschmidt has held this single-vineyard Cabernet back for more than five years, an expensive proposition. And it needs even more time. Although it’s magnificent, the parts haven’t yet come together. It’s massive in blackberry and cassis liqueur flavors, and the tannins are pure Alexander Valley—soft and herbal—but the oak sticks out like a sore thumb. Put it in the cellar until at least 2018, and it could go far beyond that."
