What to Expect

Pinotage, a cross between Pinot Noir and Cinsault, is considered to be one of the classic grapes from South Africa. It can produce a very distinctive wine with a hint of rubber on the nose that leads to a rather fruity palate with notes of banana, plum and cherry. While the grape is high in tannins, the wine is produced in a broad range of styles.

Winemakers Notes

PINOTAGE is the quintessential South African grape. A rare fi nd
indeed! A distinctive ruby-red appearance loaded with plum and
raspberries. Wood tannins are well-integrated and friendly. An
excellent example of this unique South African grape.
Winemaker’s comments
Healthy, full grapes (24 °C) were fermented on the skins for 7 days
at 27 °C. After malolactic fermentation the wine is matured on a
combination of French and American oak.
Food pairings
Enjoy with pork and lightly curried dishes or just sip with friends.

My cousin brought this over for me to try. I love it when someone brings me something out of the box. If left to my own devices, I usually end up with a Bordeaux or Aussie Shiraz. It felt a bit watery - definitely a light bodied wine. One noticeable thing is the astringent component in it. I'd be interested to see if this is a characteristic of a Pinotage. Overall, good QPR. I would not choose this as my wine & cheese wine. Rather, it would be great read more...

Just tasted the 2005 vintage - yummy! Aromas of green olives, sage and tobacco with cranberry fruit flavors and refined tannins.

I have drank a case of this wine and bought a second case for my father. I was standard ware with Cabernet Sauvignon wines, but fell upon this wine and thought it was great. Sweet, oaky and fruity flavored. I would recommend this wine to all that seek a flavorful red wine without the bitter bit of some cab sav
