Godeval Godello Valdeorras 2014

Winemaker's Notes:

100% Godello from estate plots of Godeval--a mix of younger planting and the older vines with an average of 25 years old at an altitude of 500 meters. Pure slate soils. Winemaking: Grapes are harvested by hand with fermentation using indigenous yeasts in stainless steel. No malolactic fermentation. Aging in stainless steel for 6 months. Tasting Notes: Fresh aromas of citrus and bright herbal notes that continue on the palate with green apple and pit fruit flavors that round out the mineral acidity. Extremely versatile at the table--delightful on its own but proves complimentary to a wide array of food, from salads to seafood and beyond. Alcohol 13%. Not yet reviewed; 2013 vintage rated 91 points by Wine & Spirits, Peñín Guide to Spanish Wine, and Wine Spectator.

Loads of Green Apple, almost like a liquid green apple Jolly Rancher. A hint of butter, but not like an annoying, Chardonnay butter bomb. It Killed with Asian Salmon.

An inland region in northwest Spain, Valdeorras, has resurrected Godello, a grape that was nearly extinct 20 years ago. A richer white than its neighboring Albari¤o, with intriguing subtle floral and lime flavors that make it ideal for shellfish.
