Goats do Roam is a South African wine company, based in the Paarl region of the Cape winelands. Founded in 1999 by Fairview owner Charles Back, the company's wines continue to be produced at the Fairview cellar, under the guidance of Back's experienced team. The winemaking focus is on blended styles, incorporating grapes from vineyards in a number of winemaking regions. Initially inspired by the roaming Saanen goats on the Fairview farm, the Goats do Roam winemakers draw inspiration from various regions while still aiming to express a truly South African wine style. The range of wines has been widely acclaimed for its excellent value and consistent quality as well as the brands innovative, quirky approach to the market. After enjoying early success in the US market, the wines of the Goats do Roam Wine Company are now available in many parts of the world. The goats do roam! Following the careful selection of fine fruit from the top vineyards in the area, the grapes used in our Goats do Roam wines are transported to the Fairview cellar in Paarl, where the wines are produced and bottled. We harvest from the last week in January through to late March. During this period our modern, well-equipped Winery processes over 1500 tons of grapes. Modern wine making techniques coupled to traditional care enable us to depict both the varietal character and terroir of our vines. Read less

Smoked meat nose, like the plain Goats do Roam. Bigger bodied, though, with notes of dark berries, firm tannins, and a hint of licorice on a medium-length finish.

Dry and crisp, fairly high alcohol but still has good fruit.

This is a very good every day wine. Tasty, predictable. The taste is not affected too much by the atmosphere or food. Complex, but not too much, so goes well with almost everything. Not overly sweet.

Definitely a very drinkable wine. Spiced and smooth, this goes down exceedingly well with a nice steak.

Round and ripe, with plum and berry flavors, and sweet smoke on the finish. Straightforward but engaging. A blend of Pinotage, Shiraz, Cinsault, Grenache and others. Drink now.

The grapes were harvested from vineyards in Paarl, Pedeberg and Malmesbury. The grapes are mostly sourced from dry-farmed old bush vines. These are mostly vineyards with small cropping levels. The resulting wine has considerable concentration.

Wine Tasting NotesVibrant brick red. Ripe red fruit, with a fragrant lift, with liquorice and spice notes. Fruit follows through, with fragrant notes completing the medium bodied mouthfeel. Well integrated with a smooth finish. The wine is ready for drinking. Enjoy over the next year or two.

Weingut:  Fairview WinesRegion:  PaarlRebsorten:  20% Pinotage, 50% Shiraz, 10% Mourvèdre, 10% Cinsaut, 5% Grenache, 5% CarignanInhalt:  0,75 lAlkoholgehalt: 14 Vol.%Säuregehalt: 5,75 g/lRestsüße: 3 g/lEmpfohlene Serviertemperatur:  16°CFassreife: in Stahltanks und teilweise Barriques gereift (6 Monate)Lagerfähigkeit: 3 - 5 Jahre ab Jahrgang Rotwein > Südafrika > Paarl - Franschhoek

The 2000 Goats Do Roam Red, a blend of 33% Pinot Noir, 22% Shiraz, 13% Cinsault, 13% Grenache, 10% Carignan, 5% Gamay Noir, and 4% Mourvedre, exhibits a beautiful cherry, raspberry, and blackberry nose. Light to medium-bodied, supple, and easy to drink, this is a juicy, spicy cherry and pepper-flavored wine. It is expressive, thirst-quenching, and delicious. Drink it over the next two years. This wine is a superb value.

This vintage is a blend of primarily Shiraz and Pinotage with Cinsaut, Mourvèdre, Grenache, Merlot, Carignan, Gamay and Cabernet being used to achieve a style consistent with what Goats do Roam has become famous for.
