Gnarly Head Zinfandel Lodi Old Vine 2011
I took both - zin and cab Gnarly 2011 to compare. Zin seems to be more fresh and fun then cab... And cab is deep and doomed. both are good but I'd choose cab next time.Add winemaker's notes

Nice garnet color, soil and dark berry aromas, earthy plum taste, nice round mouthfeel with a peppery tang on lingering finish.
Berry on the nose. Jammy blackberry at first with a spicy finish. Very nice .
Another good Zin! What a bargain! Under $10!!! Great with everything rich...
I got this at Lowe's Foods, on sale, for 9.99. It looks like I could get it cheaper somewhere else. I am definitely going to do that because this was one tasty MFer. Very fruity with a tinge of cinnamon. The aroma was very light.
Great black cherry notes. Delicious for the price. I was very surprised. Went well with filet, asparagus, portabellas, and crusty bread!
Very surprised at how well this tasted. The aroma is by far one of my favorites! The taste dry and deep. You can really taste the berry and it's earthy.

Robust berry flavors and exotic spice notes from the small grape clusters are balanced with French, American and Hungarian oak, which creates heady layers of vanilla and chocolate and a lingering finish. - Winery
With robust berry flavors and exotic spicy notes, this Zinfandel has many layers of vanilla and chocolate that lead to a lingering finish.
This excellent value is a 55,000-case blend of 80% Zinfandel, 14% Petite Sirah, and 6% Cabernet Sauvignon. It reveals classic cherry and strawberry characteristics intermixed with Mediterranean sea breeze-like aromas, medium body, and soft but noticeable
True gnarly heads, these old vines yield fewer grape clusters with smaller berries than trellised vines. These mighty little berries produce intense, bold wines that are deep in color with concentrated dark fruit flavors. A core of rich, dark berry flavors with layers of spice, plum, pepper and vanilla balanced by light hint of toasted oak. Think pasta with sauce or ribs directly from the BBQ.
