User Reviews for Gnarly Head Zinfandel Lodi Old Vine
Add your reviewGreat daily drinker here from Gnarly Head. Don't let the vintage fool you - this is a smooth drinker! Rich berry flavors you'd expect from a Zin, but aging in three different types of oak has layered on some nice notes of vanilla, pepper, and a hint of licorice. At around $10 a bottle, you can have it with pizza, BBQ, pasta - whatever your pleasure!
I have had this wine numerous times - it is easy to fine in TN and it tastes good! The nose is of a black cherry and earthy. The color is a very dark red to black. there are tannins in the tast that provide a little after taste of black cherries..
Okay, I really loved this one. I only picked it up because I have not had and Old Vine Zin in a while and it was on sale. I have been sipping on this one all weekend. I had a glass with chocolate and I am having a glass right now with pizza. Worked well in both cases and I am sure it would work well with an elegant dinner, as well.
This is always one of the first Zins I recommend to people. It's very approachable, and is a great example I feel of old vine Zinfandel-y goodness. I've paired this up with many meals, and enjoy drinking it on it's own. Certainly a strong stand-by.
A good $10 easy-drinking Zinfandel with plenty of fruit, while still being reasonably balanced. Nice on its own or with food.

Wine Tasting NotesThe Gnarly Head Old Vine Zinfandel is crafted from grapes from 35 to 80 year old vines. Rich, dark berry flavors from the small grape clusters are balanced with French, American and Hungarian oak, which creates layers of plum, pepper, cola and chocolate. This luscious combination provides a lingering and spicy finish. This wine pairs well with barbecue, pizza, hearty pastas, chili and ribs.
