Food Pairings for Gnarly Head Zinfandel Lodi Old Vine
Hard to review because this is not characteristic of the varietal, yet a very tasty wine. Jammy blueberry fruit, very extracted, with cedar and some spice tones. None of the characteristic zin pepper. More like a syrah, as others have noted, or even a well-made petite sirah. Good value for a drinkable wine that would go well with a variety of foods from pizza and pasta to burgers and fries. If it were a syrah, I'd give it an 87/88 based on flavor and QPR.

Surprisingly good, despite the lame name.
Great tasting zin with lots of fruit flavors and a real mouthful of wine taste and for under $10.00 was a great bargain. Wish I could find more at this price.
Powerful, Spicy from the start, give it a few minutes to breathe and it will smooth out a bit... ate it with some tri-tip, went very well, would also compliment spicy sausage and pasta very well.
Excellent value for the money, 2004 and 2005 are comparable to a Ridge Lytton Springs or an 03 Primitivo. Even when decanted for an hour, the 06 falls flat and isn't worth your time.
Jammy, easy-drinking Zin.
