Gnarly Head Old Vine Zinfandel États-Unis Delicato Vineyards 2005
This Old Vine Zinfandel is crafted from grapes from 35 to 80 year old vines. Rich, dark berry flavors from the small grape clusters are balanced with French, American and Hungarian oak. Luscious layers of plum, pepper and chocolate provide a lingering and spicy finish. This wine pairs well with barbecue, pizza, hearty pastas, chili and ribs.
Very good table wine, not too much tannis. Very rich, would go really well with steak and red meat, probably very good for bbq as well. It's nothing super special, but a great value.
I drank the 2006. Bough it for $10.95. I Let it breath and it opened up nicely. Corked it and tried again the next night and it was really good. I am buying more for a curry dinner party I am having tonight. Let it breath.
As good as the 04, if not better. Stay away from the 06, even when decanted, falls flat and is disappointing. For the $, the 05 is a great deal.
A bit old for a CA zin, but this is still drinking nicely. Nice zesty fruit. - Tasted at Marché Bacchus 2/20/10
Concentrated, vanilla, spicy, round. Great with pasta. Delicious.
Long spicy finish. Dark fruit flavor.
