This Old Vine Zinfandel is crafted from grapes from 35 to 80 year old vines. Rich, dark berry flavors from the small grape clusters are balanced with French, American and Hungarian oak. Luscious layers of plum, pepper and chocolate provide a lingering and spicy finish. This wine pairs well with barbecue, pizza, hearty pastas, chili and ribs.

- As good as the 04, if not better. Stay away from the 06, even when decanted, falls flat and is disappointing. For the $, the 05 is a great deal.

- Gnarly Head is a nice, simple wine that makes for a good night cap or an easy to drink introduction to someone who may not know whether or not they like wine. Relatively smokey with an easy finish. Worth its $10 price tag but not much more, IMO.

- A favourite, great with dinner but also by itself after it has breathed for a little while. Lots of flavour but not overpowering, I agree that it is a good wine for a beginner red wine drinker.
