What to Expect

Zinfandel is considered America's own great indigenous grape, even though its origins lie on the Adriatic coast. Planted throughout California and the Pacific Northwest, Zinfandel is at its best in warm regions with cooler temperatures during harvest. The wines can range from off-dry Rosés, White Zinfandels, and light bistro styled wines, to big, rich powerful wines - even luscious wines for dessert bottling. The flavors range from plummy to raspberry, although deep blackberry fruit and brambly spice tones are most common.

What a great zin for the price! Good body with a good finish loaded with red berries and wood. Great with the barbeque! One of my favorite wines under $10 (Safeway). Lists for $15 but nobody should pay that!

At first the aroma overpowers your senses. But give it a little time and it settles down to bring some of the most diverse flavors ever. I sometimes go with the $20+ bottles of Zins...But I ALWAYS come back to this little favorite. This wine converted my wife from a white wine only.
If you dont finish the bottle, the next day add some club soda and finish it off with a light meal..You will be surprised!

Gnarly Head Old Vine Zin 2006 Lodi Zinfandel

We really like this old vine zinfandel. It's a hit with BBQ ribs. Lots of bang for the buck at $9.99 or so.

Big robust aroma on the nose a little tight at first but opens up in the glass keeping you coming back for a sniff.

Black cherry, dark fruit & some spice with hints of oak & vanilla as it opens up.

Full bodied in the mouth with taste much like the aroma, dark fruit, vanilla spice & oak again gets better as it opens up revealing more layers of subtle flavors..

Lingering spice finish. Some may like read more...
