Nothing special, nothing flawed. Easily drinkable with a fruit-forward, smooth complexion. Hints of cherries and slight chocolate.
I'm new to Merlot's. But I think this was a good intro considering the price, popularity, and well-roundedness. It's a little sweet and a little heavy for my tastes, but that doesn't mean anything to those who like it. The tannins balance out the sweetness in the sense that they both seem slightly strong, with sweetness winning out. (I'm a regular Cab. Sauv. drinker, so I like em deep in flavor and dry as a bone - like Oberon) Sweet fruity aroma, taste of Oaky dark fruit (mostly raspberries). When I first opened this bottle, and it was still a little stiff, the hint of Mint was easily found (and even surprised me to know that I actually noticed it), but now that it's been relaxed for a few days, I don't notice it anymore.
